Regional Airline

Travelling in Africa is a challenging objective. One of our trips from Sierra Leone to Nigeria took us all the way to London to then fly to Nigeria since we could not find a direct line between the two neighboring countries.  There is a definitive need within ECOWAS to see a regional airline flourish.  This information has been provided to us by the government of Sierra Leone and confirmed during our visit to Nigeria as well as through our research.  We propose to set up a regional airline which will convert Freetown into an entry point to the ECOWAS countries.

At the beginning, the airline will operate:

  • Two Airbus 330-200 or Boeing 767-200ER.
    • Both planes will be new. We are taking two planes to ensure the routes are still flown during maintenance and down time. Typical range with 253 passengers in a three-class configuration is 12,500 km (6,750 nautical miles).
    • These planes will fly to Europe and the Middle East.
  • Five Airbus 319-111.

    • o The range with 124 passengers in a two-class configuration extends to 3,600 nautical miles (6,900 km), the highest in its class. The A320 and A319 are the most popular variants of the A320 family. With jet fuel prices rising dramatically, Northwest Airlines is replacing McDonnell Douglas DC-9 aircraft it has had in service for decades, because the A319 is 27% more fuel efficient than the DC-9. We have located slightly used and extremely well maintained planes that we propose to relocated to Sierra Leone.
    • o These planes will fly the ECOWAS routes for which the government of Sierra Leone already has an agreement in place
  • Five Twin Otter.

    •  Sierra Leone is a relatively small country and a Twin Otter is a perfect plane for this environment. The DHC-6 Twin Otter is a 20-passenger STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) utility aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada. The aircraft's fixed tricycle undercarriage, STOL abilities and relatively high rate of climb have made it a successful cargo, regional passenger airliner and MEDEVAC aircraft.
    • This aircraft will be well suited to fly to the newly opened airports in Sierra Leone.
